Caldwell’s Roofing is a skylight contractor. Whether you’re wanting a fixed (non-openable) skylight, a venting (openable) skylight, a skylight with blinds, a solar-powered- or electric-skylight, Caldwell’s Roofing can make it happen for you. Follow along to see some of their work installing a couple of quality Velux vented skylights.
It’s important in any endeavor that instructions be followed. But with skylights, a frequent place for leaks, it’s imperative to adhere exactly to the manufacturer’s specs. By doing so, not only can Caldwell’s Roofing ensure against leaks, it also enables them to offer Velux’s 10-year warranty. Manufacturer’s warranties are notorious for being scrapped if any one step was deviated from during installation.
Velux’s quality skylights have a three-layer system of stopping leaks:
- A seal located on the underside of the skylights that presses against the roof decking.
- A quality window tape that seals the side and flanges of the skylight to the decking and shingle underlayment.
- A shingle/step-flashing/counter-flashing system that works together to keep water shedding out onto the top of the shingle roof.
You can see most of the components pictured below.
Skylights, as the ones below, can be manufactured to be “vented” (“openable”).
Velux’s skylights have a professional, clean look upon completion. They are made to withstand effects of weathering and wind-driven rain.
These two Velux skylights were installed in a single day. If you’d like to discuss the possibility of installing skylights or solar tubes (pictured below), please feel free to contact skylight contractor Caldwell’s Roofing! 334.332.7799.
